No. You can call us as soon as you’re ready to talk, even if you have no details worked out. We’ll discuss options with you, such as using a Guardian Funerals chapel, a church or temple, community hall, outdoor space or family home. Once we understand what feels appropriate for your loved one, we’ll help secure a date and venue on your behalf.
If you can, bring a close friend or relative for support. Practical items that can help include your loved one’s birth details, any prepaid funeral documents or written wishes, a recent photo and the clothes you’d like them to be dressed in. If you can’t find everything straight away, that’s okay. We’ll let you know what’s essential now and what can be followed up later.

Repatriation is the process of moving a deceased person from one location to another – often between countries, but sometimes within Australia – so that final rites can be held in their home or place of birth.

At Guardian Funerals, we offer two package options. Essential Care provides a respectful, modest farewell with transfers, support with admin and legal requirements, and a viewing included. Our Superior Care package includes everything in the Essential care offering with a few extra touches, including a floral allowance, condolence book, celebrant fees and more. We have a trusted network of local caterers and suppliers. However, in some cases, you may be able to bring your own food.
Yes, we can guide you on where you might host the gathering, as well as recommend local caterers. We can also talk you through the different ways you might make it special, like creating a playlist of your loved one’s favourite music to play during the event.
There are lots of small touches that can make the gathering feel like “them”. You could set up photo displays or a memory table, play meaningful music, serve their favourite foods or drinks, decorate in their favourite colours, or invite people to share stories, prayers or toasts. We can share ideas from other families we’ve supported if you’re not sure where to start.
Yes – and we often do. From specific dietary needs and traditional foods to prayers, hymns, waiata, karakia, kava ceremonies or other rituals, we’ll work closely with you and, where needed, your faith or community leaders, to make sure your gathering respects and honours your culture or beliefs.
It’s up to you. Between 1.5–3 hours is most common. Some people may wish to stop by for a quick hello before heading home, while others might want to stay and commemorate for hours.
A prepaid funeral plan allows you to arrange and pay for your funeral in advance. You decide on the key elements now, and selected services are fixed at today’s prices. When the time comes, your family has a clear plan to follow and less to organise.
The cost depends on the choices you make – such as cremation or burial, venue, and the level of service. You’ll pay for what’s included in your plan, and that portion is fixed at today’s rates. When the time comes, your family may choose to add items that aren’t covered by the plan – this is fine, but any extras will be paid for separately at the time.
Yes. Once you agree the price of your Guardian plan prepaid funeral plan, you can either pay in full or pay a 30% deposit, followed by monthly instalments over 12, 24 or 36 months. Any outstanding instalment balance is required to be paid at the time of arranging the funeral. Your prepaid specialist can talk you through the options.
We understand that circumstances and preferences can change. If you’d like to review or update your plan, contact us and we’ll talk through what’s possible and how any changes might affect the cost.
Prepaid funeral plans may be exempt from asset tests for the Age Pension and some other Centrelink payments. Because everyone’s situation is different, we recommend speaking with a financial adviser about your specific circumstances.
If you move or pass away outside the area, your plan can usually still be used or transferred, although additional transport or service costs may apply. Talk to our team if you’re planning a move so we can explain how it would work for you.
